Rioja
It is located in the North Central region of Spain. The Rioja wines have fruity and earthy flavors. You will enjoy a smooth taste throughout. The flavors are created by blending a variety of grapes with Tempranillo to produce a rich and sour flavor. The wine’s aging period is longer than usual for Rioja wines. Crianza wine spends 1 year in barrel and 1 year in bottle. On the other hand, Joven wine is released right away without any aging.
Penedes
It is located in North-eastern Spain in Catalonia and it is one of the best and oldest Spanish wine regions. The most famous wine of all is Cava, a white wine. That’s because the grapes grown in Penedes are mostly white but there are some red grapes too which are used for creating red wines of course.
Prioriat
Most of the vineyards in Prioriat are built of steep terraces moving towards Mountains and hills. The wines produced are rich because the area gets wholesome sun exposure. The common grapes used for producing wines include Carinena and Garnacha.
Ribera Del Duero
It is located in the Southern plains of Burgos. Moderate to low rainfall is received by the area annually. The summers are usually long and hot whereas winters are extremely cold. Most of the grapes grown are red and there is only one white grape variety here. Tempranillo is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec to provide exotic flavors. The wine aging requirements of this region are similar to the ones used in Rioja.
Valencia
It also includes in the list of the oldest wine regions. The grapes are grown in this region date back to the Neolithic Era. Valencia wines are exported around the world. The region is located on the east coast but the majority of the vineyards are located inland. The world-famous Moscato grapes are produced here all thanks to the rich, chalky, and sandy limestone soil. The wine aging process is different. The Reserva wines are aged for 6 months whereas the Crianza wines are aged for 3 months.
La Mancha
It is located in central Spain home to more than 300 wineries. The famous production are Tempranillo and Garnacha wines.
Sherry
The wines produced here got famous due to the coastal location of Sherry and the boom of trading in the 15th century. You will find the finest hand-produced wine in Sherry. The famous fine-style wine called Palido is worth trying if you are looking for a crisp almondy taste.
